with a fine toothed comb::day 3

After the thrill of having the school nurse declare us nit free, I made the mistake of thinking we could back off a little bit. So, yesterday evening we delayed the combing procedure a little longer than we should, and then discovered a few more nits than we had seen in the morning. Ok, kiddos, everybody gets oiled up again. Maybe the oil should be a nightly thing for a while.
I also decided that the hair tonic (the water with the essential oils) would be a leave-in product. So, the new procedure is this:
- at night apply the oil, allow it to remain on the hair at least 1 hour.
- shampoo with the doctored up shampoo to get the oil out.
- comb
- in the morning, at least wet the hair or shampoo if needed (in case all the oil didn’t come out the night before)
- comb
- spray with hair tonic and leave in.
This morning, the situation looked pretty good for most of us. Some still had a few little empty egg casings in our hair, but we’ll be doing a good combing tonight.

oh my sympathies are with you. I have been through this myself TWICE! But only once with a kid (but she had mega long, thick, wavy hair.) It gave me a whole new appreciation of the concept: ‘nit-picker’!
I dreaded it but used the nasty chemical stuff unhappily. Since apparently I am an ideal environment for the little guys I’m keeping your post and proceedures filed for hopefully un-needed furture reference.
Hang in there. They do eventually go away and you will stop wanting to scratch everytime you think of them (though I found myself itching while reading your post!) and it has nothing to do with your water conservation/sensitive skin habits!
